Mid-Century Structure with KalaRara Artistic Intervention
This set of four Italian mid-century chairs has been reinterpreted by the artists of KalaRara Roma, transforming classic modern seating into a distinctive set of collectible statement pieces.
The chairs retain their original mid-century structure in black enameled wood, characterized by clean lines and balanced proportions typical of Italian furniture from the period. The seats and backs have been newly upholstered in black cotton velvet, providing a rich tactile contrast to the dark lacquered frames.
Each chair back has been further embellished with a hand-painted and hand-embroidered “Lady Luck” motif inspired by the iconic tattoo imagery associated with the American artist Norman 'Sailor Jerry' Collins. These decorative interventions introduce a playful rock-and-roll sensibility that contrasts with the disciplined geometry of the original chairs.
Because each embroidered panel is executed by hand, the chairs form a unique set of four, blending mid-century design with contemporary artistic craftsmanship.
The chairs have been professionally refurbished in the KalaRara Roma studio. The frames have been finished in black enamel and the seats and backs newly upholstered in black cotton velvet with hand-embroidered and hand-painted decorative panels.
With their bold graphic character, the chairs work particularly well around a gaming table, in an eclectic dining room, or within retail or hospitality interiors where a touch of irreverent personality is desired.
