Semainier Dresser by Carlo Hauner & Martin Eisler for Forma

€4,900.00

Italy / Brazil, circa 1950s–1960s

This refined seven-drawer semainier dresser was designed by Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler, the influential design partnership behind the furniture company Forma, founded in São Paulo in the early 1950s.

Hauner and Eisler played a central role in establishing the international reputation of Brazilian modernist furniture. Their designs are characterized by refined proportions, luxurious wood surfaces, and elegant metal structures that lend a sense of visual lightness to otherwise substantial case pieces.

This semainier dresser reflects those qualities beautifully. The tall vertical composition is defined by a sequence of seven drawers framed by a slender tubular structure that elevates the cabinet from the floor, creating an architectural balance between mass and openness. The warm wood surfaces emphasize the craftsmanship for which Forma furniture became known.

Following the establishment of Forma in Brazil, Carlo Hauner later returned to Italy to create Forma di Brescia, producing furniture for prestigious institutional clients including the Embassy of Brazil in Rome and commissions within Vatican City. Pieces from this period represent a fascinating dialogue between Italian craftsmanship and the modernist language that Hauner and Eisler helped shape in Brazil.

Condition

The exterior wood surfaces have been professionally restored to their original finish, bringing back the warmth and depth of the material while preserving the integrity of the structure.

The dresser presents in excellent condition and is ready for immediate placement.

Ideal Placement

With its elegant vertical proportions, this semainier functions beautifully in bedrooms, dressing rooms, or entry spaces where a sculptural storage piece can add both practicality and architectural presence.
