Romeo Rega 1970's Oversized Bench in Tufted Velvet and Chrome

€2,800.00

Beautiful one-of-a-kind piece custom made for a private client in the 1970's. This unusually long tufted velvet bench with its polished chrome frame and simplified Roman key motif feet, is the epitome of the Dolce Vita Roman 70's style. With its sleek proportions the bench works perfectly in a living room, a corridor or in a retail setting. It was designed and produced by Romeo Rega who was one of the most important Italian furniture designers of the second half of the 20th century.

He launched his brand in Rome, Italy on December 31, 1969, designing and producing a vast array of lamps, chairs, tables, and etageres etc. Not just a designer Rega was an artisan and many of his pieces were custom made for both his professional and private clients. The brand ceased production in 1981.

Romeo Rega's furniture is characterized by geometric shapes tending towards minimalism. His pieces are almost always gilded, chromed, or brass-plated, thus creating the charm and elegance for which Rega is known.

Rega collaborated with other noted Italian designers such as Willy Rizzo and the prestigious Gabriella Crespi. These collaborations proved fruitful and resulted in the creation of furnishings of unique elegance. Romeo Rega's work is popular among lovers of what is known in the United States as the Hollywood Regency style.
