PAIR OF SOLID BLOCK MURANO GLASS TABLE LAMPS

€3,500.00

Murano, Italy — Glass Elements circa 1985

This striking pair of table lamps features rare Murano glass blocks produced on the island of Murano in the mid-1980s. The lamps are constructed from substantial blocks of transparent Venetian glass infused with subtle white and light grey smoke effects, creating a luminous depth within the material.

Each glass block is smooth on three sides and concave on the fourth, a sculptural detail that refracts light differently across the surface and enhances the architectural character of the design. The weight and clarity of the glass emphasize the craftsmanship associated with Murano’s long-standing tradition of artistic glassmaking.

The glass elements date from approximately 1985 and have been mounted more recently on handcrafted square brass bases with matching square brass lampshades. This restrained contemporary assembly highlights the sculptural presence of the glass while allowing the material itself to remain the primary visual focus.

Murano glass elements of this type are no longer in production, making the lamps both decorative lighting and collectible objects that reflect the experimental character of late twentieth-century Venetian glassmaking.

Condition

The Murano glass blocks date from the 1980s and present well with no notable damage. The brass bases and lampshades were produced more recently and remain in excellent condition.

Ideal Placement

Because of their sculptural mass and architectural clarity, these lamps work particularly well on consoles, sideboards, or large bedside tables where their substantial glass forms can serve as decorative focal points.
