Italy, circa 1950s–1960s
This elegant pair of mid-century armchairs was designed by Luigi 'Gigi' Radice for the renowned Italian manufacturer Minotti. Radice was among the generation of designers who helped define the distinctive language of Italian mid-century modern design during the post-war period.
The chairs demonstrate Radice’s characteristic balance between architectural clarity and organic comfort. Clean structural lines and gently sculpted proportions give the chairs a refined presence while maintaining the relaxed elegance associated with Italian modern interiors of the 1950s and 1960s.
Designs by Radice for Minotti are particularly admired for their disciplined silhouettes and attention to material quality. Pieces from this period reflect the broader evolution of Italian furniture design as it moved toward a modern vocabulary that combined craftsmanship with a lighter, more fluid aesthetic.
The armchairs have been professionally refurbished in the KalaRara Roma studio. New foam padding has been installed in the seat and armrests, and the chairs have been reupholstered in an Italian bouclé fabric in a melange of gunmetal grey and warm beige. Rust-colored cotton satin cushions are included.
The frames remain structurally sound and the chairs are ready for immediate placement.
Because of their generous proportions and refined upholstery, these armchairs function beautifully in living rooms, reading areas, hotel suites, or reception spaces where comfortable seating with strong mid-century character is desired.
