Pair of Monumental Art Deco Style Floor Lamps in Maple

€7,320.00

Custom-Made Lighting, Italy — circa 1970s

This monumental one-of-a-kind pair of custom-made floor lamps was produced in Italy during the mid-1970s and reflects the enduring influence of Art Deco architectural design. Originally commissioned for the lobby of a hotel in the Marche region, the lamps were conceived as architectural elements intended to anchor a large interior space.

Each lamp is crafted entirely in maple wood and rises from a stepped plinth base supporting a square fluted column. The column culminates in an oversized Tuscan-style capital, creating a composition that references classical architectural language while maintaining the geometric clarity associated with Art Deco revival design of the period.

Suspended beneath each capital are three tiers of fluted plexiglass panels that diffuse the primary lighting elements concealed behind them. In addition, a halogen uplight positioned at the center of each capital provides upward illumination, emphasizing the architectural silhouette of the lamps and creating ambient lighting suitable for large interiors.

Because of their scale and sculptural presence, the lamps function not only as lighting fixtures but also as dramatic decorative elements capable of defining the atmosphere of a space.

Condition

The lamps remain structurally sound and retain their original maple wood construction and plexiglass light diffusers. The lighting system includes both internal illumination and halogen uplighting integrated within the capitals.

Ideal Placement

Due to their monumental scale and architectural character, these lamps are particularly suited to hotel lobbies, gallery-like living spaces, or large reception areas where sculptural lighting can serve as a focal element.
