The “Maiko” Round Ottoman is a one-of-a-kind piece designed and handmade exclusively for KalaRara Roma.
The circular form is upholstered in black cotton velvet and encircled by a continuous band of antique Japanese silk obi. The contrast between the restrained velvet surface and the woven silk gives the historic textile a clear presence within the composition.
The ottoman is generously padded and constructed on a beechwood base. A hand-hammered antique brass plinth completes the piece, grounding the soft cylindrical form and introducing a measured contrast of textile, wood, and metal.
Functional as both seating and a freestanding textile object, the ottoman brings an antique Japanese material into a contemporary furnishing without obscuring its individual character.
