“PLAYING KOI” is a one-of-a-kind coffee table handcrafted in the KalaRara Roma atelier. Conceived as a sculptural meditation on the precious and ephemeral nature of water, the piece merges painting, glasswork, and architectural structure into a functional artwork.
At its core lies an aluminium panel finished in silver leaf, upon which two koi fish are meticulously hand painted. The surface is layered with clear Murano glass rods, multicoloured ground Murano glass crystals, Murano glass fragments, and sea glass — forming a dynamic aquatic landscape.
A custom-made ultra-clear resin permanently encapsulates and stabilises the glass elements, creating depth and luminosity while preserving clarity. The completed panel is housed within a handcrafted plexiglass case and protected by an inset scratch-resistant tempered glass top.
The structure rests upon a plexiglass cube secured with precision plexiglass dowels, reinforcing the sense of transparency and suspended movement.
Entirely made by hand in Rome, Italy, “PLAYING KOI” is both collectible sculptural object and functional coffee table. The piece is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity confirming its one-of-a-kind status and artisanal production.
