“ORBITAL II” is a one-of-a-kind square wall artwork designed and handcrafted by KalaRara Roma. Across an intense black field, concentric bands of colour describe a continuous movement without a fixed beginning or end.
Its entire frontal plane is covered edge to edge in MicroCristallo Fusione™. Cobalt blue, orange, burnt orange, petroleum green, celadon green and amethyst form successive crystalline rings, each responding differently to changes in light and viewpoint. What appears graphic from a distance reveals a densely worked, materially complex surface at close range.
Gold-leaf circles move through the composition like points of reference within an otherwise immeasurable field. Their asymmetrical placement disrupts the stability of the concentric structure, suggesting bodies in motion rather than a purely geometric pattern.
“ORBITAL II” was conceived and produced with “ORBITAL I” as its companion. The two works present the same image viewed from opposing ends: a change of orientation that preserves the composition while altering the experience of it. Each may be acquired and displayed individually; together, they establish a larger dialogue between direction, distance and perception.
By fixing the suggestion of endless movement within a tactile crystalline surface, “ORBITAL II” considers the tension between the infinite and the material—the space we attempt to navigate and the physical position from which we encounter it.
The artwork is constructed on a sustainable reclaimed beechwood base covered in linen. Gold leaf over linen finishes all four lateral sides, allowing the work’s luminosity to continue around its edges.
Entirely handcrafted in Rome, Italy, “ORBITAL II” is both a sculptural wall work and a collectible contemporary artwork.
