“ORBITAL I” is a one-of-a-kind square wall artwork designed and handcrafted by KalaRara Roma. Concentric bands of colour expand across an intense black field, creating an image suggestive of orbit, passage and continuous movement through space.
The entire frontal surface is worked edge to edge in MicroCristallo Fusione™. Rings of cobalt blue, orange, burnt orange, petroleum green, celadon green and amethyst emerge from the crystalline black ground, their granular surfaces shifting in depth and luminosity as the light changes.
Circular insets of gold leaf interrupt the concentric movement at irregular intervals. Their differing scale and placement resist a fixed centre, introducing multiple points of orientation within the composition. The image appears at once ordered and unsettled—held within the square format yet seemingly part of a trajectory extending beyond it.
Conceived with “ORBITAL II” as one of two related works, “ORBITAL I” presents the same orbital image from the opposite end. Each artwork is complete in itself and may be acquired individually; shown together, they create a spatial dialogue in which direction and viewpoint remain open.
The crystalline surface gives physical substance to an image of perpetual motion, reflecting KalaRara Roma’s continuing exploration of navigation, infinity and our material presence within an immeasurable universe.
The work is constructed on a sustainable reclaimed beechwood base covered in linen. All four lateral sides are finished in gold leaf over linen, extending the material composition beyond the frontal plane.
Entirely handcrafted in Rome, Italy, “ORBITAL I” is both a sculptural wall work and a collectible contemporary artwork.
