"ONCE IN A BLUE MOON" DINING TABLE
Volcanic Matter, Textile Memory, Italian Light
“ONCE IN A BLUE MOON” is a one-of-a-kind dining table designed and manufactured by KalaRara Roma in 2024. The piece is a study in contrast — density and delicacy, geological weight and ephemeral imprint.
The tabletop is created on canvas using a composite of pulverised obsidian infused with pink sand from Sardinia. The mineral surface carries a deep, atmospheric tonality, enriched by the subtle warmth of Mediterranean sand.
Before curing, the surface was imprinted with antique lace, embedding a fragile textile memory into volcanic matter. Crushed Murano glass is layered into the composition, catching and refracting light to create a quiet luminosity beneath the mineral depth.
An edge-to-edge extra-clear tempered glass panel rests above the artwork, transforming the surface into a durable dining plane while preserving its sculptural and tactile complexity.
The base is hand-forged stainless steel with a brushed finish, architectural in line and refined in presence — providing a clean structural counterpoint to the richly layered top.
