“Celestial Axis” is a one-of-a-kind coffee table handcrafted in the KalaRara Roma atelier in Rome. The piece explores themes of navigation, spatial order, and celestial movement through the studio’s MicroCristallo Fusione technique.
The circular tabletop is composed entirely of MicroCristallo Fusione — a layered glass fusion process developed within the KalaRara Roma studio. Thousands of glass crystals form a luminous mineral field across the surface, producing subtle variations of color and light as the viewer moves around the piece. A bold red axis divides the composition into four quadrants, suggesting systems of orientation and cosmic mapping while scattered circular forms appear to drift across the surface like planetary bodies in orbit.
The MicroCristallo Fusione surface is protected by an inset tempered glass panel, preserving the depth and optical clarity of the fused glass composition while providing a durable functional surface.
The base is fabricated from stainless steel and hand polished to a mirror finish. Vertical channels divide the cylindrical body into four architectural quadrants, each revealing a precise line of mirror-polished brazer head rivets. A recessed circumferential channel runs around the body of the table, visually separating the tabletop from the base and reinforcing the structural geometry of the piece.
The base rests upon an inset mirror-finished stainless steel footer approximately seven centimeters high. This recessed plinth protects the structure from accidental scuffing while visually lifting the table above the floor, creating the impression that the piece floats within the space.
Entirely handmade in Rome, “Celestial Axis” functions both as a sculptural object and a functional coffee table. The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity confirming its one-of-a-kind status and studio production.
