“ABSTRACTION #2” is a one-of-a-kind rectangular low coffee table conceived as both functional object and contemporary artwork. Designed and handcrafted in Rome by the artists and artisans of KalaRara Roma, the piece explores color, texture, and material transformation.
The inset tabletop is created on canvas embroidered with gold and copper threading, then hand-painted using natural mineral pigments blended with Murano glass powders. Ochre, carnelian, mauve, and powder blue tones emerge in layered depth, evoking the atmosphere of a Roman sunset.
A portion of the composition is overlaid with a naturally weathered and oxidised sheet of lead, loosely folded back to enhance the sculptural dimension and tactile complexity of the surface.
The table rests within a hand-forged iron base finished in satin, producing a soft, lustrous sheen. A transparent matte sealant protects the metal while preserving its refined character. An edge-to-edge extra-clear tempered glass panel completes the structure, transforming the expressive surface into a durable, functional plane.
ABSTRACTION #2 stands at the intersection of painting and architecture — a low sculptural table anchored in Roman materiality.
