THE “GEISHA” OTTOMAN — Velvet and Antique Silk
Textile Heritage, Roman Craftsmanship
The “Geisha” Ottoman is part of a unique pair distinguished by the inclusion of a rare antique Japanese obi dating from the 1950s. Because of this singular textile element, the pair cannot be replicated.
Each ottoman is meticulously handcrafted in Rome by master artisans. The square form is upholstered in deep black cotton velvet, encircled at its center by a continuous band of vintage silk obi. The obi is exceptional in both color and composition — interlocking geometric motifs in gold, silver, black, and deep orange. Though created in the 1950s, the pattern and palette feel strikingly modern.
On each of the four sides, a single Shinto symbol representing good luck and good fortune is hand embroidered into the velvet, positioned above and below the silk band. The embroidery adds a quiet symbolic layer while enhancing the tactile dimension of the piece.
The structure is built on a custom beechwood base and padded with high-density premium foam to ensure comfort, durability, and longevity of form.
With their elevated height and sculptural presence, the Geisha Ottomans function as seating, accent pieces, or textile statements within refined interiors.
